]]>The post COVID-19 test must for Sharjah school students, teachers and staff before classes begin appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Sharjah: All students, teachers and staff of private schools in Sharjah must test negative for COVID-19 before physically joining school in the new term, which begins August 30, the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) says in the newly-published ‘Guidelines for Reopening Private Schools in Sharjah’.
It adds that “school principals should be aware of the COVID-19 test schedule, which would impact their operational reopening plan. This might result in teachers, staff and students joining their schools in batches”.
The 29-page document says, “In collaboration with the health authorities in Sharjah, all students, teachers, and staff of all private schools will be tested for COVID-19 in advance of physically joining the school.
“This very important initiative, which is undertaken by the UAE Government to ensure the safety of students and school staff, might continue at different times during the remainder of the academic year in which regular testing of students, teachers and other staff members will be conducted. SPEA will communicate with all private schools any further related updates from the concerned health authorities…”
Also, in case teachers and staff have travelled abroad over the summer break, they should be back in the UAE 14 days before the start of the academic year, the 179-point guidelines say.
“Travel declaration forms will be required for all those who travel (in the last 14 days); these must be submitted to the school prior to travel occurring and re-confirmed before joining school.”
Also, parents have to download the Al Hosn App “to ensure traceability in the event of infection”.
Meanwhile, each private school in Sharjah must create a ‘COVID-19 Task Force’, of a designated team of school health and safety officers, that “would be responsible for all the precautionary measures for the schools’ reopening. The Task Force must use this guide to conduct a risk assessment and ensure that the school is ready for reopening”.
Regarding the guidelines, SPEA says “additional instructions or an updated version of this document will be shared with schools accordingly”.
Student desks in the classrooms will be set apart by 1.5m and each room will have a maximum capacity based on the space available. “In some situations, particularly in lower grades, staff will be expected to move between classes, as opposed to students moving to receive lessons,” the document says. Meanwhile, spacing in the canteen will be 2m, to be used in staggered break times if needed to reduce crowding.
Students below six years (below Grade 1) are not required to wear masks. Students of Grade 1 and above, teachers and school staff members are required to bring a minimum of two masks each to school per day, for their personal use. Schools will hold an available stock of spare masks to supplement any student’s or visitor’s need.”
The school bus capacity should not exceed 50 per cent, and safe physical distances must be maintained by placing stickers on seats. The temperature will be taken prior to students entering the bus.
“Student will not be allowed to enter the bus if fever is apparent. Parents will have to wait with students until the bus departs,” the guidelines say.
“Schools must avoid lines or crowds of parents in textbooks and school uniform distribution processes. Such activities must be planned after the school day and when students have left the school premises.
“Schools must ensure that textbooks and school uniforms are properly packaged and sanitised before starting the distribution process.”
Group activities such as school trips, celebrations, sports days, and student camps are cancelled.
If a student or staff member is suspected of being a COVID-19 positive case, he/she will be immediately moved to the school isolation room.
Only the school medical staff are permitted to enter the isolation room wearing full PPE.
The student’s parent/s will be contacted immediately by the school’s clinic medical staff and the concerned authorities will also be notified through official channels.
The school will strictly adhere to the health authority requirements for managing and transferring any suspected cases of COVID-19.
All areas which may have been accessed by the suspected case will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised/disinfected following any suspected cases. These areas will be closed immediately until the cleaning is completed.
Tracing will be conducted to identify those who may have come into contact with the suspected case. Health authority requirements will be strictly adhered to, this may include additional testing and isolation of persons who may have come into contact with the suspected case.
Each school will have a detailed medical policy and procedure in place, which will detail the emergency procedures undertaken to handle such situations.

]]>The post Motorist caught speeding in Sharjah at 278km/hr appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Sharjah: A traffic radar in Sharjah has caught a motorist speeding at 278km/hr, police told Gulf News.
Captain Saud Al Shaiba, Director of Traffic Awareness and Traffic Media Branch, said the speeding violation caught by the radar was the highest speed detected in the emirate since the beginning of this year.
The motorist was seen speeding on Nazwa-Maleiha Road. Police summoned the reckless driver — a man in his 20s from a Gulf country — and impounded his vehicle.
Captain Al Shaiba said Sharjah Police were working hard to reduce the risk posed by road users to others by driving or riding at high speed.
He said that despite police warnings about the dangers of speeding, drivers repeat the violation and endanger lives.
Motorists get double violation penalties for speeding and putting lives in danger.
Police said that many motorists don’t realise the dangers of speeding. Scientific studies have proved that the force of impact of a collision when driving at 220km/hr is physically equivalent to a fall from the 60th floor; at 200km/hr, it is equivalent to a fall from the 50th floor; and at 140km/hr, it is equivalent to a fall from the 30th floor, thereby significantly increasing the chances of death from collision at such speeds.
Captain Al Shaiba added that police have doubled their efforts to reduce accidents by launching a safety campaign during the year.

]]>The post UAE: Indian mum gives birth to baby girl at hospital entrance in Sharjah appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Dubai: In a highly unusual incident, a young Indian mother delivered her child at the doorstep of Burjeel Hospital Sharjah, where nurses had to rush out to assist her.
Parveen Banu, an Indian expatraite from Chennai, was due for the delivery of her second child on August 16. So when she had slight pain on the morning of August 4, she did not think much of it. However, by 9.30am as she sat for breakast, Banu starting experiencing the pain every five minutes.
“During my previous delivery too, I had silent labour pains. The delivery was natural and very quick. I was registered for delivery at a hosptial in Al Jurf, Ajman, this time, but we realised I had no time to reach there as we stay in Sharjah. The closest hosptial was Burjeel which was 10 minutes away. So my husband Zakeer Azharudhin drove me down to the emergency of this hospital. But on the way, I could actually feel the baby coming out. It was barely 15 minutes after the labour pain had started,” said Banu.
By the time the car reached a traffic signal, the baby was halfway out. And as soon as the couple reached the gate of the hospital, they alerted the security and two nurses rushed out.
Dr Hala Al Taie, the General Physician on duty, told Gulf News: “There was no time for any formalities; two nurses cordoned off the area as there were cars passing by while two others assisted the mother. We had to cut open the lady’s lower garment to extract the baby which had started crying by then. I just severed the umblical chord, wrapped the baby girl and assisted the mother.”
The baby, weighhing 2.65kg, has been placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to be checked or any possible contaimiantion.
The mother was admitted to the hosptial for two days as she required stitches. She has now been discharged.
Dr Al Taie said: “In all my years as a doctor I have never seen a case like this. The mother hardly had any labour pains and the baby was already halfway out at the traffic signal. This is one story I will tell my children and grandchildren. Fortunately for the mother, this hospital was close by and she was able to get all the assistance she required.”
The parents have named the newborn Absheen as her elder sibling, 7, is Tasheen, said the happy father Azharuddin.
The couple is looking forward to welcoming the baby home soon.

]]>The post UAE Health Ministry begins Phase III clinical trials for COVID 19 vaccine in Sharjah appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has announced it will be hosting the world’s first Phase III clinical trials of an inactivated vaccine to combat COVID-19, which was developed by Abu Dhabi-based G42 Healthcare and Sinopharm CNBG, the world’s sixth-largest vaccine manufacturer.
Opening a centre outside Abu Dhabi for the first time for volunteers to register, the ministry is dedicating the Al Qarayen Health Centre in Sharjah. The facility can register up to 500 volunteers per day and will be open to residents of Sharjah and other neighbouring emirates as part of the #4Humanity campaign launched on July 16.
The phase III clinical trials follow the success of the phase I and phase II trials conducted by Sinopharm in China, which resulted in 100 per cent of the volunteers generating antibodies after two doses in 28 days. The phase III trials are open to individual volunteers aged between 18 and 60 living in the UAE and will last for three to six months, with the volunteers required to be available for follow ups during this time.
The trials are being managed by G42 Healthcare in partnership with MOHAP and will play a central role in facilitating procedures for registering volunteers and conducting necessary tests.
Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al Owais, the UAE Minister of Health and Prevention, said: “The UAE health sector adopts a flexible and multi-track strategy in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, which depends on competent authorities conducting the largest possible number of medical tests and providing necessary care for the infected persons.
“Meanwhile, we are strengthening our cooperation with international partners to support the development of a safe vaccine against the disease. Thus, expanding the geographical scope of the #4Humanity campaign to include all emirates aims to enhance the results of clinical trials and ensure the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine on a larger segment of individuals”.
Expanding the geographical scope of the #4Humanity campaign to include all emirates aims to enhance the results of clinical trials and ensure the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine on a larger segment of individuals
Al Owais added: “We are optimistic about achieving promising results that would support the global efforts being made to develop the vaccine. Allocating Al Qarayen Health Centre as the first centre outside of Abu Dhabi to register, screen and test volunteers is yet another a distinct contribution from the UAE, to be added to its impeccable record of achievements in the field of clinical research thanks to the country’s advanced infrastructure, the efficiency of its health system and ability to conduct medical research according to the highest international standards”.
Dr Mohammad Salim Al Olama, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Prevention and Chairman of the Emirates Health Services Establishment, stressed the ministry’s keenness to harness all necessary resources and capabilities to ensure the full readiness of Al Qarayen Health Centre and facilitate the success of the third phase of the tests.
“Thousands of people of different nationalities have already expressed their desire to take part in the clinical trials, which reflects the confidence in the UAE health system and its ability to conduct clinical trials to test the promising vaccine in partnership with local and international parties,” Al Olama said.
He reaffirmed that the centre has enough space and ideal facilities that help register and conduct medical tests for volunteers according to the best scientific standards, and is open to residents from Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.
CEO of G42 Healthcare, Ashish Koshy added: “The #4Humanity programme has captured the imagination of residents in every Emirate who are keen to volunteer and help find a cure for the world’s biggest health challenge of the 21st Century.
“Since the launch, it became quickly apparent of the strong desire of health authorities and residents across the UAE to play their part and help ensure the success of these trials at a truly national level. Our teams are now working closely with MOHAP and SEHA to ensure our advanced technology and measurement process complements their frontline testing of volunteers.”

]]>The post Sharjah records zero road deaths during Eid Al Adha holidays appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Sharjah: Thanks to a comprehensive traffic management plan, the emirate of Sharjah did not record any deaths on its roads during the recent Eid Al Adha holidays, police said.
The call centre at the Sharjah Police Central Operations Room received 12,313 emergency and non-emergency phone calls during the holiday period between July 30 and August 1, Colonel Jassim Bin Hada, Director of Operations Department at Sharjah Police, said.
Col. Bin Hada confirmed the increase in the number of incoming calls to the call centre during this period, pointing out that most of them are calls related to minor accident reports, general inquiries and police services provided during the holidays.
Colonel Bin Hada stated that the Operations Department received calls around the clock. The response speed in urgent cases was five minutes from the time of receiving the communication until the arrival to the site of the event. He said that this response rate is one of the best indicators at the national level, despite the demographic diversity, and the diversity of cultures and languages within the emirate.
He also reminded the public to call 999 only in cases of genuine emergency, encouraging non-emergency calls on 901 instead.
On the traffic side, Lt. Col. Mohammad Alay Al Naqbi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department, confirmed the success of the traffic plan that was developed and implemented by the administration during the Eid Al Adha holiday, with the participation of various units in Sharjah Police.
Sharjah police patrols on roads during the Eid holidays
Lieutenant Colonel Al Naqbi explained that, despite the heavy traffic flow in the streets and internal and external roads, and the large presence of visitors in various parks in the emirate, the intense traffic presence and public awareness of traffic safety measures contributed to recording no deaths during the holiday period. He added that the Traffic Department has taken all measures according to the prepared plan, to ensure traffic safety and facilitate traffic in front of visitors.
He praised the public’s cooperation with the traffic police, which formed the basis of success in achieving zero deaths. He also lauded the efforts made by all employees of the administration and all police units in Sharjah Police throughout the Eid holidays, which had a positive impact on the smooth flow of traffic.
“The plan developed covered traffic security in tourist and commercial areas as well as main streets,” he said.
Sharjah police deployed 180 police patrols on roads to control traffic movement and monitoring public behaviour on the roads to ensure their safety and adhering to precautionary measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.

]]>Sharjah: Serious crime in Sharjah decreased by 26 per cent per 100,000 people in the first six months of this year, compared to 2019 figures.
Police attributed the lower crime rate to a new mechanism that involves tracking movements of suspects who were previously involved in criminal activities.
Brigadier General Ahmad Al Serkal, Acting Director General of Police Operations, attributed the drop to strict security measures enforced by the police, in addition to awareness campaigns.
He attributed the drop to the keenness of the police to provide best policing services and continuously strive to enhance security staff members’ efficiency in catering to the needs of the community by providing them with quality training and ensuring prompt response to security reports. The number of surveillance cameras were also increased in the emirate.
Al Serkal further said that based on the data and the identification of the types of recorded crimes, appropriate plans and solutions were put in place to check criminal activities and reduce the serious crime index. This was achieved by increasing the presence of security personnel, enhancing preventive measures and applying appropriate procedures to reduce crime.
Al Serkal said the implementation and timing of the state’s national sterilisation programme to contain the COVID-19 pandemic had also contributed towards reducing crime.
Serious crime includes offences such as theft, rape and the possession or trafficking of drugs. “There are 16 crimes that are considered serious, some of them are possession, dealing and trafficking in drugs, rape, sodomy, murder, robbery, auto theft and pocketpicking.

]]>The post Boy, 10, beaten for not combing hair, one arrested in Sharjah appeared first on The Wealth Land.
]]>Sharjah: Public Prosecution has referred a 36-year-old Arab supervisor of a social centre in Sharjah to the Misdemeanor Court after he was accused of assaulting a 10-year-old boy for not combing his hair.
The incident is said to have adversely affected the boy.
During interrogation, the defendant told the prosecutor that he worked as a welfare worker in the social centre and had asked the boy more than once to take care of his personal hygiene. But there had been no response.
In the last instance, when he asked the boy to comb his hair, he did not comply with the directions. So he slapped him on his neck.
He denied claims in the Prosecution record that he had assaulted the victim more than once, and said he had a clean record.
Meanwhile, the victim said during interrogation that when the defendant asked him to style his hair, he had said he did not have a comb. Subsequently, the defendant asked him to look for a comb but the boy did not pay heed. The defendant then allegedly told him that he could not use his iPad for a week. The boy then went to the computer room to attend class remotely, but when he finished and was about to leave the room, the defendant pulled him aside and hit him on the neck from behind.
The boy added that his neck went red and this was not the first time that he had been beaten.
Public Prosecution ordered that the accused remain in custody for seven days. The case will be heard in the Misdemeanor Court on August 11.
