Emirates ID card statutes in United Arab Emirates (UAE)

It is an identity card of the UAE, it is a must for all UAE residents as the part of their residency requirements, it serves as the identification purpose in all the, issued by Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, a legal requirement for all UAE citizen and residents to apply for one and carry it with them at all the time.

Who is eligible?

Every UAE resident is eligible for applying for the Emirates ID card.

Emirates ID card feature:

Emirates ID card consists of the following components.

  • Smart card
  • Public key infrastructure (digital signature and authentication certificate)
  • The fingerprint biometric

The identification number:

The identification number, an identity card is the featured for its identification number called identity number which sticks with its holder forever, by its number he or she may benefit from all the governmental, some of the non- governmental, and the private entities services. Which requires the identity card as the evidence of who is accessing the service. The identity number includes 15 digits, it is featured for its sole and un- repeats number.

The electronic chip:

The electronic chip is the chip that contains personal data of the holder, data can be read by the machine built for this purpose and authenticate user’s credential, some of these data are the encrypted and only readable or writable or updatable by authorized authorities in order to the protection and privacy of data, this electronic chip may store up to the 32,000 letters of information.

Other techniques:

Identity card number has the state of the art technology in the field of smart cards, including the accurate letters, ultra violet ink, and the line drawing it has the nine 9 security features, which makes the falsification of the card very difficult for such features excels currently used standards in many cards like banking credit cards.

Getting ID:

Getting the Emirates ID card, the applicant has filled to eform at one of the authorised typing centres / through the online form on the website of Federal Authority of Identity and citizenship, an SMS containing information about where and when to register will follow the application. The applicant will need to proceed to the registration center mention in SMS to complete the procedure.

Renewal emirates ID card:

When you will need to renew your ID card? There is the time limit to renew your expired ID card that is 30 days from the date of expiry, after which late fines 20 AED will be applied per day, with a maximum of AED 1,000.

After the ID card expires, the ID cardholder must apply for its renewal one. The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) will send you a notification through the SMS requesting you to renew your ID card.

You will just here need to submit your renewal application in person at the accredited typing centre/ online through the website of Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship FAIC, also you might need to visit one of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship FAIC’s services centre/ preventive medical centre to provide your biometric details.

How early can emirates ID card will be renewal?

Before the expires of ID, UAE national can apply to for renewal of emirates ID card between the six 6 to one 1 month, the UAE residence visa holder can only apply for renewal when their residence visa is renewed/reissued.

Replacing lost, stolen or damaged emirates ID card:

If a person lost his or her emirates ID card or suspect it has been stolen or damaged you must soon request a replacement of emirates ID from the federal authority for identity and citizenship (ICA).

  • First report the incident:

Report the incident first, approach the nearest ICA Customer Happiness Centre and report the incident so the lost ID card will be deactivated immediately, ask ICA for a copy of the lost ID, in case of a damaged card, bring the old card with you. Remember to bring along your identification papers to prove your real identity, when you reporting the incident.

  • The GCC national provides the document proving their residency in the United Arab Emirates.
  • Expatriate residents must bring the original passport stamped with the valid residency permit.
  • If lost emirates ID card belongs to a child under the age of fifteen 15 years, parents must provide an original birth certificate of the child along with his coloured passport photo (against the white background).

After reporting about the incident, fill in the application form at any of the ICA’s Customers Happiness Centre/ fill it through the eform on the ICA’s website/ the ICA UAE application available on Google Play, iTunes and request a replacement of ID card.

  • Fees pay:

There is the applicant must pay the fee of AED 300 for the replacement of a damaged or lost ID card, in addition to the application fees of AED 70 in the case of applying through the typing center / 40 AED in the case of applying through the website of ICA. The fees apply to all United Arab Emirates UAE national, GCC national, and expatriate resident, a person may get an express Id replacement services at the ICA main’s Customers Happiness Centre against the 150 AED.

  • Finally, collect the new ID card:

Collect your new ID card finally, you will be received a text from the ICA. The ID card will be issued within 48 hours from the time of submitting a replacement application.

Those people who applied for the express services will receive the Id within 24 hours from the time of submitting the replacement application.

  • Details updates on the emirates ID:

Emirates ID holder must report any change in his or her details of the ID card to the competent department in ICA within 1 month from the date of the change.

For any details related to existing and valid ID, you are required to visit ICA’s Customers Happiness Centre with the original passport and Emirates ID.

Details related to the existing Id card cannot be updated online this applies to the emirates ID issued to the nationals and the expatriate residents.

Emirates ID card cancelling:

Canceling the ID card, people, or residents who intend to cancel the UAE residence visa for the purpose of leaving the country for good/purpose of changing the job, are required to hand over the emirates ID card to the respective General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affairs. The respective General Directorate for Residency and Foreigners Affair swill hand over the returned ID to the FAIC which had issued the card.
